Advanced Managed PDU
Customisable Intelligent PDUs from Schleifenbauer
Since 2008, Schleifenbauer has been producing advanced Power Distribution Units (PDUs), including Managed PDUs.
PDU 5.0 is their next generation advanced PDU. Built in collaboration with over 40 Data Centre operators to address the specific needs of modern Data Centres.
PDU 5.0 boasts real-time tracking and advanced energy management features, offering greater scalability, integration, and security.
Why Managed PDUs are important in Data Centres
In Data Centres, Managed PDUs provide the ultimate solution for power distribution to server racks. They offer vital information on energy consumed at both input and breaker levels. Furthermore, they deliver granular power usage data down to individual outlets. This capability is particularly useful for optimising power usage, ensuring accurate energy billing, and improving equipment performance. Authorised users can switch individual outlets on and off and cycle power in any desired order. You can employ power sequencing delays to minimise inrush currents, prevent unauthorised device provisioning, conserve energy by powering off unused devices, or reboot devices to quickly restore services.
With a Managed PDU, you gain greater flexibility in monitoring and controlling the power supplied to equipment, facilitating more efficient and convenient management of your IT infrastructure. Managed PDUs with both switched and metered outlets offer significant advantages over traditional PDUs in Data Centres.
Here are reasons to consider Managed PDUs for use in Data Centres:
- Remote Management: Managed PDUs enable you to remotely monitor and control power, an especially valuable feature in Data Centres where technicians may not always be physically present. With remote management capabilities, you can easily monitor power consumption, switch outlets on and off, and adjust your power usage without needing to be onsite.
- Improved Efficiency: Metered outlets provide greater insight into the power usage of each device. You can use this information for precise power billing, optimising power usage, and identifying inefficient equipment in need of upgrading, which enhances overall efficiency. Additionally, the switch functionality allows for easily turning off unused outlets, further boosting energy efficiency.
- Increased Flexibility: With switched and metered outlets, you achieve a greater level of flexibility than with traditional PDUs. You can promptly update your power infrastructure as necessary by monitoring and controlling outlets.
- Enhanced Security: Managed PDUs that feature both switched and metered outlets often include advanced security measures like user authentication and authorisation, helping prevent unauthorised access to critical systems.

Communication Modules
Hot swappable communication modules allow you to easily adapt to the evolving needs of Data Centres without experiencing operational downtime. With plug-n-play sensor capabilities, your PDU can support up to 32 sensors per unit, providing extensive environmental monitoring and management. Dual 1Gbps network connectivity, alongside dual Databus and dual USB on the Gateway and Controller modules, ensures you maintain reliable, high-speed connectivity within your network.
Gateway Module
The Gateway Module, designed to operate seamlessly with the EnerTree Platform, offers advanced energy management by centralising data from multiple PDUs. The intelligence level provided by the EnerTree Platform offers a robust solution for high-compute power monitoring applications. With a measurement refresh rate of once every second and support for up to 10,000 PDUs within the system, you can effectively improve efficiency and reduce costs by using less hardware within the PDU.
Controller Module
The Controller Module features embedded EnerTree Lite software with an internal Web GUI, offering you a more traditional form of power management. With a refresh rate of once every five seconds, it can support a maximum of 100 PDUs within the system. The module fully integrates with other PDU monitoring and management software systems, ensuring compatibility.
Daisy Chain Module
The Daisy Chain Module is a secure data communication module, which operates without an Ethernet port. It acts as a data relay module to enable PDU network expansion. It facilitates the creation of a ring topology and transmits data exclusively to a single Gateway or Controller Module.
